ABOUT

“Collective” reflects the collaborative nature of Ester’s work and the many mediums she chooses to pursue. She graduated from MIT with a bachelor in Brain and Cognitive Sciences in 2019 - her interest in the human psyche guides not only her life but also her artistic practice.

Nowadays, Ester is based in Bushwick, Brooklyn and is focused on rope as a medium. To her, rope and specifically Shibari (Japanese rope bondage) are an opportunity to meaningfully connect with people.

Her practice is informed by classic Shibari and is heavily inspired by the works of Marie Sauvage and master Hajime Kinoko. She has taken classes with Marie in Paris and Doll and Sydona in NYC to further her rope education.

Above all else, Ester is inspired by the love and people around her. Her art is empathetic and kind, and recognizes the humanity in all of us.

As of today, 529collective has self-published a poetry book, incorporated Shibari into and performed in “Triptych, Mirrored” - a contemporary dance performance, organized and curated “PLAYHAUZ” - an art showcase in Brooklyn, and continues to organize events in NYC.

“It’s a poetic experience getting tied by Ester (@529collective). The entire process took a couple hours in where I felt both totally out of control and totally cared for. Ester is incredibly gentle, thoughtful and made relinquishing control easy and pleasurable. She has beautiful things to say about what rope means for her - relinquishing the ability to move, forces you to sit with yourself and be completely present. It’s both sensual and playful. Ester is an artist, my body became the canvas, the rope is her paintbrush. Her work maneuvers with you, creating an experience that is curated for you specifically, and tailors to your body and mind. I can’t say this loud enough, Ester is fucking awesome!! I can’t wait till the next time.”
